What Floats Your Boat?

Updated: Jul 31, 2023

What floats your boat, ruffles your feathers, gets your dander up, tickles your fancy, rocks your world, pushes your buttons, gets your motor running, lights your fire, rings your bell?

These phrases are all used to inquire about someone's preferences or what brings them pleasure and satisfaction and makes them laugh.

Why did the squirrel invite the rooster to its tree?

Because she wanted to start a "nuts and crows" comedy show!

That clearly wasn’t even close to a piss-your-pants funny joke, but hopefully, it got you thinking. What makes you laugh so hard that you could or would pee your pants? How can you invite even more of that into your daily life?

Laughter has the remarkable ability to brighten our days and uplift our spirits. Comedy, in its various forms, not only brings joy and entertainment, but also plays a profound role in helping individuals discover their life's purpose. While humor may seem light-hearted, its impact extends beyond mere amusement. In this article, we will explore the benefits of comedy in uncovering life's purpose, highlighting the ways laughter and finding meaning intersect.

Comedy and Emotional Regulation

Comedy has a tremendous impact on our emotional well-being. Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body's natural mood-enhancing chemicals. By indulging in humor, we experience reduced stress, increased positivity, and an improved overall sense of well-being. This emotional resilience can enable individuals to better navigate the complexities of life and embark on a journey of self-discovery in pursuit of their purpose.

It also has the unique ability to shed light on life's ironies, contradictions, and absurdities. Through laughter, we gain new perspectives and are encouraged to question societal norms and conventions.

Comedy challenges us to think critically, examine our own beliefs, and reevaluate the paths we have chosen. By questioning the status quo and seeking alternatives, we open ourselves up to the possibility of aligning our lives with a purpose that resonates more authentically with our true selves.

Laughter Bridges the Gap

Laughter is a universal language that bridges gaps and brings people together. Comedy creates a sense of community by fostering connections and shared experiences. When we laugh together, we establish bonds based on shared joy and humor. Through these connections, we can find inspiration, support, and encouragement in our quest for purpose. Comedy helps us realize that we are not alone in our search for meaning and that others may have embarked on similar journeys.

It often encourages us to embrace our quirks, imperfections, and unique qualities. Comedians, in their performances, celebrate their individuality and authenticity, inviting others to do the same. By immersing ourselves in comedy, we can learn to accept ourselves more fully, including our strengths, weaknesses, and idiosyncrasies. This self-acceptance forms the foundation for discovering and pursuing our life's purpose, as it allows us to be true to ourselves without fear of judgment.

Comedy has the power to challenge the status quo and inspire change. For example, many comedians tackle social and political issues through satire and humor, shedding light on injustices, and initiating discussions.

By engaging with such comedy, we become aware of the societal issues that need attention, awakening our sense of responsibility and driving us towards purposeful action. Comedy can motivate individuals to use their unique talents and perspectives to contribute positively to the world.

Embrace Laughter and Understand

Comedy, with its ability to uplift spirits, provide new perspectives, foster connections, and promote self-expression, holds a remarkable place in our lives. It serves as a catalyst for self-discovery and a companion on the journey toward finding our life's purpose.

By embracing laughter, humor, and the power of comedy, we not only enrich our lives but also unlock a deeper understanding of ourselves and the meaningful contributions we can make to the world. So, let us embrace the laughter, follow the joy, and embark on a Blueprint Purpose-driven path filled with humor and meaning. After all, isn’t laughter the best medicine?

In love and gratitude,

Sassafras, a Squirrel that loves to laugh.
